Doveridge Primary School

Class 1: Useful Information

Frequently asked questions:

1)Where do I drop off/pick my child up? Children should be dropped off at the double gates, they will line up at the wall opposite the bike shed and a member of staff will collect them at 8.45am. Please supervise your child until the member of staff arrives. On collection please wait at the double gates and we will dismiss your child to you at 3:25pm.

2)What do I do if my child is sick? Please ring the school office to report your child as absent.

3)What do I do if my child is going home with someone else? Please ring the school office and a note will be passed through to your child’s teacher.

4) What do I do if I need to speak with my child’s teacher? You can always have a word at the school gate during drop off/collection time. We can arrange a meeting to discuss the concern further if needed or alternatively you can write in a message in your child’s home school diary or on Seesaw online journal.

5) Which day will my child have PE/Forest School sessions? Your child will have PE on a Thursday and should come to school dressed in their PE kits which is a navy tracksuit with the school logo and royal blue t-shirt with the school logo. These items can all be purchased from Custom Creative Clothing. Please ask in the office for an order form.

They will have a Forest School session on a Monday afternoon and should come to school on that day in their school uniform but bring with them labelled wellies and if possible, labelled waterproofs (an all in one, or a two-piece waterproof are fine). We do have the facilities to keep these items at school so your child doesn’t have to carry them in every week.

6)What should my child take into school? Please send your child into school with a book bag and a labelled water bottle. We are a healthy school and offer a piece of fresh fruit to the children every day but if you would like to send an alternative healthy snack which is nut free with your child, please feel free.

7) My child does not like the food in school. All children from Reception to Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal and each day they will be offered a variety of delicious food for them to choose from. A menu will go home each term which will explain the food for each day.  We try and encourage the children to try the food. However, if your child does not like the food on that day, they can come to school with a packed lunch. Additionally, if your child has a Consultant’s letter stating any dietary requirements then please let the school know and our school cook will be happy to work with you and your child on this.

8) What if my child cannot go to the toilet independently? Please teach and support your child throughout the summer to go to the toilet independently. If your child is unable to do this then please speak to your child’s class teachers.

9) Can my child bring in a toy from home? Yes, Friday afternoons is ‘Free Choice Friday’ we will spend the afternoon exploring the children’s interests further. We would encourage them to bring in something which is of interest to them (nothing valuable please).

10) When will my child’s reading books be changed? Reading books are changed on a Tuesday and Friday. If a comment to say they have read has not been written in their diary we will assume that an adult has not shared the book and so we will send the same books out again. Please try and hear your child read their school books at least 3 times a week, this will make such a difference to the progress that they make. Please be aware that this may initially be sharing and discussing picture books but will be dependent on each child’s reading ability.
